Welcome
The Lansdowne Bridge is a popular public walkway, crossing Mallets Creek connecting Morehead Court and Delaware Drive in the Lansdowne neighborhood.

Prior to its closure, the bridge not only saw daily foot traffic from many neighborhoods, but was also a popular spot for fishing, kids catching the school bus on Delaware Drive, birthday pictures, graduation pictures, prom pictures... even wedding party pictures.

In the summer of 2008, the City engineers inspected the bridge and found it unsafe, mainly due to the crumbling weirs it's attached to underneath and put up barricades on both sides of the bridge. Since then, there has been scattered communication from the City, mainly talking about what may need to be done to fix the bridge. The homeowners are discussing how to fix the weir (since that's our responsibility) but what happens then?  Will the City re-open the bridge then?  It appears to be cheaper to replace the bridge than to make any repairs it may need on its own merits.

Current planning documents from the City indicate that the bridge may be closed well beyond 2012.  Besides making the public path between Morehead Court and Delaware Drive inaccessible, the unattractive closure has become an attractive nuisance.  Youngsters in the area delight in climbing over it, around it, and underneath it.  The closure actually makes the bridge more unsafe, while making it impossible to use it normally. A simple, practical solution is for the City and the neighborhood to work together for a long term solution and to commit to it.

If you agree with us as citizens who enjoy the bridge, please let the City Council and the Mayor know that you want this commitment!
